It’s time for another edition of Fuzz Wars and, once again, I have my good friend Jonathan Hischke (Dot Hacker, Hella, Broken Bells) on board to help review four must-have fuzz pedals before they run out of production! The video features the Walrus Audio Jupiter Fuzz, the Idiot Box Effects Cool Buzz Bass Fuzz, the Mojo Hand FX BMP-1 Fuzz, and the Caroline Guitar Company’s Wave Cannon. All four are very different fuzz pedals that can range from a simple, one-switch, straight-forward fuzz to a multi-knobbed, versatile noise box!
It’s no surprise that people constantly ask about the Walrus Audio Jupiter Fuzz here at PedalsAndEffects. This pedal is so multifaceted and is equipped with such an extensive fuzz tones that you are almost guaranteed to find a sound suitable for any situation. With an almost completely opposite approach, the Idiot Box Effects Cool Buzz Bass Fuzz has no knobs and only one switch that turns on the scoop filtering! But don’t let its simplicity fool you; this pedal’s fuzz carries such a distinctive tonal punch that it definitely deserves a place on your pedalboard.
The Mojo Hand FX BMP-1 is the only clone fuzz that we covered in this edition of Fuzz Wars, and is a re-creation of the legendary “Tall Font Russian Muff,” as noted by the Russian tank on its paint job. This true bypass pedal is a heavy duty, very limited edition monster that was built for battle!
Finally, we have what I think is the craziest fuzz of this installment: Caroline Guitar Company’s Wave Cannon. This stomp box carries a ton of tonal potential with its multiple gain settings, filtering and unique “Havoc mode” feature. Jonathan and I had so much fun dialing in the knobs and switches to search for those over-the-top wild sounds that you can’t find out of your average fuzz box.
Once again, I’d like to thank my partner in crime, Jonathan Hischke, for helping explore these four fuzz pedals. Stay tuned for the already filmed Fuzz Wars Round 8, where we mess around with some very rare pedals. It’s another battle worth watching!
