Big Sir made a record last year called Before Gardens After Gardens and typically, bands follow up their records with remixes of their songs, sometimes done by others and other times, themselves. Lisa Papineau and I decided to do our own spin on a remix record but with a twist- we re-recorded some songs from Before Gardens After Gardens in a digital hardcore style.
We’re both big fans of Atari Teenage Riot and feel they are the best representation of the digital hardcore genre. Big Sir has taken some tracks, bumped up the BPM’S, added heavy drums and grindy bass and let Lisa go crazy on the mic. We thought it’d be a fun spin on a traditional remix record. There will be some new and unreleased tracks on it as well, but the main purpose of this record was to make ourselves happy…and we hope you’ll like it, too.
This video is only a sample of what’s to come. I’ve been obsessed with “grindy bass” for years , and have used a Rat pedal and a Sovtek fuzz pedal to get this particular sound back when I played bass with Distortion Felix.
On these video samples, I played my 1970 Fender Precision through my unknown Russian distortion or Dwarfcraft’s Eau Claire Thunder with some of their Hax on it. That is just the start. I have a ton of other sounds coming on this record and I want to thank Lisa for letting me go ape shit crazy on this record.
You’ll have a chance to see us pull this off live if you live in Southern California:Big Sir (w/ Biceratops and Flying Hand) February 24th (Sunday) Bootleg Theater 2200 Beverly Blvd. Los Angeles, CA 8:30-10:30pm
