Today’s Show Me Your Pedalboard entry comes from bass player Cedric from Quebec, Canada! Cedric’s not rocking just one, but two boards to suit his needs. He has his main board that he usually gigs with but when a certain side project of his calls, he puts both boards to good use. Both boards are relatively modest, one is the main gigging board while the other one allows him to get a little more in-depth with his sound. Let’s take a look at what Cedric is rocking out with:
BOSS SYB-5 Bass Synthesizer: Prices for these have been slowly but steadily been going up. The SYB-3 is a great pedal, and guitarists have started using it to pull some really cool synthy sounds. It’s not on the level of the Electro-Harmonix Microsynth, but it can get some really gnarly synth sounds similar to the Line 6 FM4.
Powered by a MXR DC Brick: Be sure to check out the MXR Iso brick too! I use it all the time, most of the time if I’m demo-ing something on my Instagram the Iso brick is what has been usually powering the pedals!
Electro-Harmonix Bass Microsynthesizer: I know its easier said than done, but if you can get your hands on a vintage version of the pedal your sound will improve immensely. It’s night and day when it comes to old and new EHX pedals. I’ve gushed about the Microsynth many times before.
Lots of cool stuff here Cedric. Cedric mentions that he runs two separate lines to the soundguy at the venue and he blends both as they see fit. See, that’s cool and all, but your sound is really at the mercy of the sound guy. If it were me, I’d want as much control as possible. If you’re using both boards, I’d run board one into board two and run those inline with your amp, or in this case run those both as one signal output to the front of house. Just my two cents, everyone wants something different from their sound so go with what works for you!
Merci, Cedric, for sending in your board! If you haven’t sent in your board, email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and it could be featured right here on PedalsAndEffects! We get a high volume of submissions, so don’t fret if your board doesn’t show up immediately! We go through each and every single one we can! Until next time!
