I had a great time the other night with reoccurring guest and always genius Nick Reinhart and the insanely talented Justin Meldal-Johnsen at 5starr Sound Labs. We were filming for an upcoming post for PedalsAndEffects and I had some down time and decided to show Nick a couple of older posts I did. One of them that I showed him was a video I did for Pigtronix where I ran through both their Distnortion and their incredibly wild Mothership. I soon realized, while watching it, how much work went into that post and I mentioned to Nick that if it was any post I did that didn’t receive the response I thought it deserved, it was that post.
In that post, I went all out and did a lot of back and forth on the audio and the video. I also did a first where I jammed a beat under a looped bass line I came up with. Nick was laughing and saying he thought what I came up with was sick so I decided I would throw it up on a Throwback Thursday and see if it has better luck.

I used the Mothership pedal a ton in Mars Volta and it was one of those pedals that when I jumped on it, heads would turn to me because it always came through with awesome sounds! I used to use it a lot on my bedroom videos I would shoot before I had my 5starr Sound Labs and some of the most synthy sounds I have ever achieved have been with this pedal.
In this video, I decided to pair it with Pigtronix’s Distnortion and give the viewer a full Pigtronix assault. The routing of these two pedals made for some wild synth sounds that were heavy and funky…so funky, I placed what I came up with, with a funky beat. I even decided to drop some vocals on because I was so excited.
Let me know what you think of this video and what you would have prefered to have seen. I am not saying I will recut it, I just want to know what you all think of this video and what else you would have liked to have seen!
